Full of Music
Not showing up to my Danish classes can be also beneficial. I was invited to a couple of concerts on Monday evening, and when I went there, I had the great time.
First, the saxophonist Mia Dyberg asked me to take some pictures of her instrumental duo playing in the Jazz House. I had already had a photo session with her and Christian Balvig and it was fun. You can find pictures here. So I was really looking forward to seeing their performance.
And also Jula Aimée – the Dutch singer and exchange student, who has been living in Copenhagen for four months – invited me to her last concert before she returns to Amsterdam.
I arrived a bit later to Mia's concert. So I missed the chance to speak to her about her expectation. Honestly said, the light conditions in the Jazz House were really challenging. I like the place very much. The club was reopened last summer after the big reconstruction, and it has a touch of the 1930's. A long bar, dark green curtains, heavy glass chandeliers, and candle lights create the cosy romantic atmosphere. On the other hand, the place is too dark to take pictures in... Anyway I'm happy that I managed to take few pictures there.
Unfortunately, I couldn't stay in the Jazz House to listen to the second concert, because I had to move my ass to get to the other concert I had been invited to.
Jula was performing in the Huset in the evening reserved for vocalist from the Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium. Six different acts introduced themselves in short twenty-minute slots that evening. Jula was the forth and performed together with a Danish guitar player. She sang tree songs. I really liked the last one called The Rest. It was a beautiful, but sad song. Jula composed it during her stay in Copenhagen and wrote the lyrics too.
During the concert, I accidentally ran into Guro Tveitnes, a Norwegian vocalist. I didn't know she was also going to perform that evening. She was singing and playing the horn with her trio.
Guro is a member of my favourite free improvising vocal band, IKI. IKI is a group of eight women from four Scandinavian countries. They have been singing together for more than tree years, and they are really cool! :) They believe in intuitive music making, and their concerts are totally improvised.
IKI recorded plenty of new music last summer, and they are working on their new album now. They started a crowdfunding campaign in order collect money to promote the album to the world. I've already donated, and you should too! Their music is pure and beautiful! If you don't want to donate, check out IKI's webpage. You can find some inspiring music there. ;-)
Have a nice snowy evening!
Gulerodsmuffins
I feel happy to eat these carrot muffins. My friend Clarissa shared a Danish recipe with me. It's simple and delicious. And I'm proud that I was able to understand it without using a dictionary. Yep, my Danish has improved! ;-)
